It's been posted a million times but HOW do you guys get the pee smell out of your carpets? I remember someone saying vinegar and water I think. How much vinegar:water? Or I think I remember someone saying natures miracal (sp). Anyone use anything that works really really good? Thanks =0)
Nature's Miracle works wonderful and it isn't very expensive. They have different types, some for "puppy pee" and we even used another type that gets rid of skunk smells, we used it when our dogs got 'skunked', man I was never so happy to have that smell gone!!!!
Acey, go to Walmart and by the candle section, buy a black light. Then, at night, walk around your house holding the black light close to the carpet, and mark every area that glows or shows a 'spot' with paper towel (so you know where the stain is). Then when you're done marking all the areas, go to each of them and use nature's miracle or any other pet enzyme cleaner and instead of spraying it on the carpet, actually pour it over the stain. Remark the area, and let it sit for 10 minutes, and then come back through and blot the areas. Another thing you can do is rent a steam cleaner, and put the regular shampoo in the cleaner, but also add nature's miracle and just steam clean the carpets and keep everyone off it for 24 hours. Vinegar works too for getting out stains and such, but I have read on several sites that in rare cases, vinegar can actually attract some dogs. I didn't know this until a week or so ago. I used to use vinegar a lot. You will go through a lot of cleaner, but if you pour it directly on the carpet, it will soak way down into the pad, which is where the odor is. By spraying, you're just getting the surface.
For an old stain, I first saturate it with about a cup of wter and suck it up with the carpet cleaner. Then I clean it with Quick "n Brite, which really gets the yellow out. After that, I put Nature's miracle in a water bottle so I can direct the stream down into the pad, thus using a little less than if I just pour. When the nature's miracle is dry, the smell should be gone. Sometimes the stain might remain, very light and has to be cleaned again with carpet cleaner. As you can see, I have extensive experience in this matter, lol!
Okay thanks a lot everyone. I'd been wondering how to get the smell out of the padding under the carpet, huntersmom, so I will definately pour it and let it sit. Ace doesn't have very many accidents anymore, but the smell is still there sometimes and I really want to get it out completely. =0)
