This sounds really stupid, but can anybody give me any suggestions on how to get my dog to pee in my yard? Yes, she only pees on leash in the parkway where she can smell other dogs, (she even lifts her leg) I have been walking her back and forth for 2 days in the back yard and she will not go! I even bought this bottle of stuff that smells like pee and sprinkled it in the yard, still not luck, (I smelled like pee all day, though, it wouldn't wash off!) It's going to get cold and i'm not looking forward to 5-6 walks a day. Thanks any suggestions, even dumb ones will be appreciated!lol http://www.dogster.com/?79653
I would do 5-6 walks a day NOW, quick, before it gets cold! LOL If you don't take her in her favorite pee area, she will get used to going where you do take her. Maybe you have a friend who can visit with their dog and let it pee in your yard? They do love to cover up other dogs' markings...
You might try taking her out in the yard at a time when you know she NEEDS to pee, not at a time when she can decide to hold it. Some dogs grow accustomed to going in their usual spot and then do not like to go anywhere else, so if you take out back when she's on the verge of a pee emergency, she won't be able to hold out as long. And part of the battle is resolving to be more stubborn than she is. When she finally does go in the yard, have a puppy-praise party. I went through a similar problem with one of my dogs, and getting her to go in the new spot the first time was the hardest part of the battle. Things weren't instantly fixed after that first time, but they did get easier.
Shiny-I thought of that, I just have to figure out how to ask someone without sounding like a total dork! Proto-I will try that too, I guess I have to be more stubborn than her. Usually after about a half hour, I give up and take her back to the parkway.
They have this thing, it's like a little yellow stake, and I guess it smells like pee? Or something like that, I think I saw it at Petco. EDIT: Here's the link http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?sku=1027913000&dept_id=%2D2
