So I had some food delivered to my home yesterday and the delivery dummy put it right infront of my Saint Pup. Well she at 2 doz raw eggs. She had diarea last night (all over the place) and today she has TU 2X and had a bit more diarea. She acts fine and is bounceing around. (6 months old about 70lbs) I called the vet and they said "oh we should look at her". I think I should just withhold food for 24 hours before rushing to the vet. What do you think?
Sounds like she'll be fine. A little kaopectate might relieve the diarrhea. As long as her stomach is not swollen (as in bloat) and she is acting normally, I wouldn't take her just yet. Make sure she is drining to keep hydrated and hold the food for awhile.
When you do start feeding her again, try the bland diet of plain white rice and boiled chicken at first. Whenever Duncan gets into something he shouldn't, that seems to settle his tummy - and he has a sensitive stomache.
Never had that happen but people eat raw eggs in shakes. I don't think it is an actual poison. The vet wants to(cha-ching)look at the dog? Call a few vets, tell them your sister feeds her dog raw eggs and ask if that is good for their skin? I think it is salmonella danger or I can't recall, but there is a reason not to feed them this on a regular basis. I don't think you should skip his meals, it will push the other food out, if he is not vomiting. My mom's a nurse, she says diahrea is unpleasant, but at least it gets the stuff out of you faster. Call the egg council or look up egg info on the net? Egg farms should know...
I agree with Kittys Mom and Minniyar. It is just eggs, and a temporary problem. Probably will be said nd done with in 24 hours. I think Kittys Mom is right, I would not stop feeding. On another note, how do you get groceries delivered to your door.
Wendy - I don't know how Paula does it, but in Alexandria, we can order from Giant through a site called Peapod and have our groceries delivered. Since I live in a highrise, it is great - they bring the food right into the kitchen.
Its called WIC and its for POOR people with kids under 5. We do not make big $ and I am a SAHM till the little ones go to school. Thanks everyone for your help. Molly is always ready to eat. I'll try some dry food for her now.-
Hee heee that is really cool. They bring it up to your kitchen??? As far as the eggs are concerned I agree with everyone else. I think it will be fine. When Rusty was sick two weeks ago someone told me I could give him pepto. If you look back on the board where I posted Rusty is sick you'll find the dosage. I wouldn't give it to her unless she looks really uncomfortable because like someone else said, it may be a mess, but at least it gets it out of their system. Good luck. BTW, living in a high rise it must be hard having a pup that needs to go outside so much! Let us know how she does.
Gina - It is not that bad to take him out. He is really fast when we go out. The high rise is more of a pain when you have a bunch of packages like groceries that you have to load into the elevator and then take down the hall. I love online grocery shopping and delivery.
