My mom is thinking about getting me a hedgehog for my birthday. I think they are SO cute, and I have lots of experience with rodents (I have had many in the past). I read about them, and I really like them, and am willing to take care of them. Do you think a hedgehog would be a good idea?
Shadow, I got bit by one of those things one time, and the breeder had to use a tool to pry it off, I'm not joking. Meanest little things I have ever come across. lol..I'm kidding of course..I doubt they're all mean. But when they bite, it's not like a puppy. And if they get scared, their quils can really hurt as well. You have to be really careful how you handle them. They also aren't too social. Usually when held, they roll up in a little ball. Some are more social and will walk around, but for the most part that's all they do. You can't pet them because of the quils. I dunno..I wouldn't want one..to me they're ornamental pets. (Cool to look at, but you can't do much with). If you want an exotic, I would highly recommend a ferret as your first. I got my first ferret when I was in 7th grade and he was awesome. Get one when it's just a baby. They love to snuggle, they follow you around, they love to play, you can litter train them...they're just awesome. That's just my opinion though. :o) Another option is there is a type of opposom that my cousin takes care of (she's a vet). I should find out what they're called, because they are a certain type. But they don't get big and they are really friendly, and very cheap. On the internet you can get them for like 30 to 50 dollars.
