Did anyone see Drphil today about obsessive behavior, and the lady that is obsessed with her bulldogs? I mean I LOVE dogs, but this lady was borderline goofy. I think it's great how much she loves her dogs and includes them in things, but making her husband 'babysit' them while she is out?? Telling her son that the dogs are his 'brothers and sisters'??? What's up with that?
i didn't see dr. phil today. i love that man he is wonderful. but anyway, since i didn't see it i don't know how obsessive the woman was but, i always tell my son our dogs are his brothers and sisters. whenever he asks for a human baby bro or sis i tell him the closest thing he's got are our pets. and i always ask scout where's your boy ? when i refer to my son. does that make me obsessive ?
With 5 dogs I'm fairly obscessive but nothing like that lady. I'm pretty sure if i'd had human children, I wouldn't look at them as my childrens brothers and sisters. But I could deal with her more easily than the woman obscessed with PINK. She made sick to my stomach-I hate pink.
Have to admit, the pups are still referred to as my "grand pups", Angel and Beau as my 4 legged children and yes, I love them. Do I put them before my 2 legged family members, humm.....I don't think so. Am I obsessive? No. Do I have someone to "dog sit" if I'll be gone for an extended period of time or do I arrange my away from home time to take them into consideration, yup! All excpet for work, it keeps getting in the way of living~grin.
Forgot to add. I had a friend (my mother's friend actually, like an honorary aunt) who gave a whole new MEANING to obsessive about her 2 dogs. One a long hair Chi, the other a tiny little terrier. The breaking point was when she came for a weekend visit and sat the dogs on her lap at the dinner table, feeding the WITH A FORK from her plate! That was a bit over the top for me!
lol Scout, no I don't think you're obsessive. Or anyone else for that matter that does the 'mommy' 'sister' 'brother' thing. I just think it's over the top if it bothers your kids/husband enough to take you to Dr. Phil. Lol. Because her son was really disgusted by being called a 'brother' to the dogs, and it seemed like she didn't have any respect for her son's feelings. If I told my kids that Hunter was their sibling, and they didn't like that, I would stop out of respect for my kids. As far as the babysitting thing, it wasn't for long periods of time. If I went on a vacation or something, I would most definately do that too. But on the episode, this lady wanted to go shopping and her husband wanted to go with her, and she wouldn't let him! She said he had to stay home and 'babysit' the dogs. That would bug me if my spouse said that to me! And the dogs had their own room. And by room, I mean bedroom with an actual human bed to sleep on and each night she would put them in there and say the 'bulldog prayer'. And like pyro said, the dogs would get to eat at the table and she fed them with spoons. I just thought the whole thing was so weird....
what a shame i missed it !! i could just imagine dr phil and his responses that would have been funny. i love my pets and i do tend to treat them as family members but i am not like that lady. though maybe having their own bedroom with their own bed wouldn't be so bad considering sometimes there isn't enough room for me in the bed once they are all comfy. but then i would miss them at night :(
