return calls or answer emails! Why would they do this? I sent an email to one breeder, who actually got back to me. Didn't really give much info-just gave her phone number and said to call. I called Wed and left a message-still haven't heard back. And there's quited a few that I have emailed with no response. What is up with that? How am I supposed to get info if no one answers?!!!
Speaking as someone who had a litter (well, not ME, my dogs that is), I can assure you that EVERY e-mail (even those who were simply asking breed info and not looking to purchase one of my pups) was answered within hours (depending on when it came in). I can't tell you how much I spent on long distance calls and remember, I sold only 8 pups at the outset, keeping 2 in reserve. I must have spoken with hundreds of folks either through e-mail and/or phone. If they are this difficult to reach BEFORE you purchase a pet, how hard will they be to contact if you DO purchase one of their litter and a problem developes? Find someone who is there for you now AND later. I know it's frustrating, but keep looking. You'll be much happier in the end.
could be too, that they are away at dog shows. you never know. i have only ever had contact with one breeder, and as much of a pest as i was, i am surprised she kept answering me.i probably emailed her every other day for a year with questions that she probably thought i was nuts. but she still let me have scout so i couldn't have put her off too much.
I was more impressed by those that asked all the questions, e-mailed and called me constanly (some several times a day). It let me know they were doing their research and had a better idea of what they were getting into.
Well, so far, I found a brittany breeder that I really liked. She returns emails, and I met her (and some of her dogs) and she is wonderful Vizsla's are giving me a problem, but I'm getting a few recommendations, so still working on that. Haven't even started on labs and goldens yet! Still not so sure I want one, but my husband does. But I really worry about health for those 2 breeds.
I'd check with Hoosgow on the Vizsula's (SP?) He breeds them and seems MORE than intelligent and up to date on his breed. On the others, try going to the national club for each. They usually have a list of recommended breeders.
I understand your frustrations and I am sure that in some cases this is caused by a lack of attention on the part of the breeder. unfortunatly, a lot of the people that are good are also very busy. one of the best trainers in the county is almost impossible to get a hold of and a breeder that has done a huge amount of work with gsp's and is a friend of mine i still have to get an act of congress just to get a hold of. the reason i am on here is because i am at work. try getting ahold of me on the weekends or in the evenings before dark and it is tough as well.
