I don't know what kind of puppy you have but when I got mine at 6wks of age I had a blanket and stuff toy that had her mother's scent on it. She also slept in her carrier beside my bed so I could calm her at night without putting her in bed with m...

Have you thought about getting a cat? They are suppose to be great at catching mice. I had a mouse in the walls and I thought my terrier was going to tear down the house to get it.

I believe a West Highland White Terrier only comes in white. I could be wrong.
