I own 2 Dogue de Bordeaux (French Mastiff). They are wonderful, I absolutely recommend them. They are intelligent, comical and very, very loyal.

Have you considered an English Bulldog, or even going to the shelter nearest you and seeing what they have as far as medium sized dogs.
