No dogs out there ( with the exception of sled dogs) burn more energy and need more nutriton than a working coonhound. If her husbands coonhounds look good on the feed then it is fairly goof feed.

I have not seen a picture of this mix that you found but it very well may be a Plott/ Cur mix which is very common in the bear hunting regions. A cur resembles a pit in many ways and to the untrained eye is easily mistaken for a pit.

All of my collars have brass tags riveted to the collar and do not hang down so they cannot catch on anything.
