I think on the Internet in general it's possible to debate an issue without showing disrespect for people who disagree with you. Not so much here. I've seen a higher level of discourse and civility between people on opposite sides of abortion.

If I call someone a "self-proclaimed scientist" I'm talking about a fraud, somebody who acts as if they know things they don't. What I wouldn't apply that to: credentialed professionals publishing in a peer-reviewed journal.
