We have a white dwarf hamster. We use the paper pulp type bedding and have had no problems. We got a very fine sand from the pet store so he/she can bathe himself.

So sorry to hear it, Major. We had a puppy die after only having him for 2 weeks! It must be so much harder after 2 months.
