I would suggest maybe an older dog or at least an older puppy. 1+ yr since you might not have to deal with potty training or the high puppy energy. Often they have some basic manners and training as well.

The only thought I would add is there maybe something in the yard that he might be munching on? There are many plants that can cause stomach upset.
