I agree with Scout, however pending on how old the dog is and what breed. Is he older? small breed?
It may be easier to determine.

I think during the day she is lonely and chooses to sleep and at nite when you all are at home in bed she wants to be with you, they are family oriented dogs and need closeness to family

No I dont have any Great Danes, however I did as a kid his name was Spooky.
I love all pets no matter what. Except for spiders.
No I cant have a pet now but maybe someday.
