it sometimes depends on how the puppy's size is. he may be big enough to handle holding it for a while. try it out.

If you have a timer, set it on 30 minutes just when your puppy starts to eat. when the timer goes off, take he or she out and practice the routine every day. i learned this. very easy, and it works.
