Marc, I want to just thank you for using the correct terminology "neglect" instead of "abuse" a mistake often present in describing rescued or shelter dogs. I would love to give you good solid advice on this issue but if I do I will only be slammed...

MericoX19 The water squirt will not elicit the response if the dog likes it! Your back to the wolf pack? Any true behaviorist will tell you that our domestic dogs actually have very little "wolf related" habits in them if any. But on the subject ...

MericoX19 You do use Negative Reinforcment! A muzzle shake is negative, squirting with water is negative, and refusal to give treat or praise is negative. It is how the dog sees it no how you see it!
