Since this is a first dog I wold go for an older dog that already has its personality and training and there will be less surprises. A good rescue will work with you to find the right fit.

No,the AKC only allows dogs from registered parents with full registration. That way its not up to debate if the dog is a purebred or not. The papers don't mean the dog is worthy of being bred though.

I never neutered my boy because I wanted to wait till he was mature and by then he had a slight reaction coming out of anesthesia to remove a lump so I didn't want to risk it. He is ten and never bred,doesn't mark, and no other issues. ...
