imsdac hang in there. The rescue group I worked with for two adoptions was like that. I got my heart broken twice too, but the little ones I ended up with are the best, I couldn't imagine not having them.

Sophie goes free all day. Emma and Oscar go into their cages. Everyone seems happy with this arrangement.

It's just plain commonsense to house train the dog, your step daughter shouldn't take offense. You would think she would want to have HER house clean.

irishgirl...not neutering your dog can cause problems later with both health and behavior. Neutering a male dog at an early age can prevent types of cancer and an unaltered male will run when there is a female in heat, up to a mile away.
