I've read that in humans, eclampsia is generally before giving birth and in dogs it usually occurs within the first 3-4 weeks after giving birth. Huronbreeze I think said she went through it before the birth of her child.

I think the main problem with given calcium and Vitamin D is the possibility of causing skeletal disorders in the pups and can even induce the bitch to getting Eclampsia.

From all we have read and our own experience, we do not generally give supplements. If you feed a high quality dog food, that should be enough. About the only thing extra we give to our pregnant bitch is a small 1x1x1/2" piece of raw liver 2-3 times ...
