My friend had some slippery elm powder that her vet gave her for her dog that had an upset stomach.
It really helped.
My dog had an upset stomach and she made me some of the powder, mixed with water, and boiled...

what about a pug or a bulldog. Both are great with kids, and would do well in a small apartment.
