my vet said he had only seen like 3 cases the whole time he has been practising- but that they do happen and can be hard to treat. just to be safe i'd get him checked- hope its ok

try washing the eyes out with milk. the milk is a miracle worker. it will help take the burning out of it's eyes. Try it on yourself next time your eyes are on fire.
