good info. kuma HATES the heat. and where we live, we can definitely call it heat (it went up to 120 a few days ago). i'll leave him out for a few minutes to go potty and he'll be scratching at the door to come back inside.

cows aren't killed in the most humane ways possible. pigs aren't either. and i've heard tell that pigs are smarter than dogs? or as smart? there is no substantial evidence that either species is more self-aware than the other.

i'm only supposed to be feeding my dog like 1.5 cups of food a day according to the label, and i shouldn't overfeed. kuma keeps a good weight, and i noticed when i feed him more kibble than what the label says, he gains weight.

No idea on how you'd get quality time with a Shiba, but I'm sure if you look around there are rescues that have fosters that you might be able to spend time with. And I'm not sure how far upstate you live, but there is an NYC Shiba meetup group on me...
