good info. kuma HATES the heat. and where we live, we can definitely call it heat (it went up to 120 a few days ago). i'll leave him out for a few minutes to go potty and he'll be scratching at the door to come back inside.

is there even good reduced calorie foods out there for dogs? and i'm not trying to make my dog lose weight, i just don't want him to gain weight.

i'm only supposed to be feeding my dog like 1.5 cups of food a day according to the label, and i shouldn't overfeed. kuma keeps a good weight, and i noticed when i feed him more kibble than what the label says, he gains weight.

No idea on how you'd get quality time with a Shiba, but I'm sure if you look around there are rescues that have fosters that you might be able to spend time with. And I'm not sure how far upstate you live, but there is an NYC Shiba meetup group on me...
