I think a good quality battery operated one should suffice. They require no training, tolerate kids and cats, and don't care what language commands are given in. They only bark if the bark button is pushed. I had one as a child and loved it, although...

I see absolutely nothing unethical about looking for a puggle in rescue...it is totally different than seeking out a "breeder" to buy a puppy. As posted, there is a puggle rescue, and there are plenty of pug/beagle mixes available on sites like Petfi...

I have been told between 3 and 4 a.m. is the best time to breed. However, with the spring flood season here and lots of bridges in danger of going under water, you might have do it at midnight.

My synpathy to you on the loss of your mother, and the problem with these poor puppies. I agree with Illusion about getting them to the vet ASAP. I have never heard of a problem like that... I'm assuming they were born with the open spot.

This happened to my male minpin about 3 days after he was neutered. Though it looked awful it didn't seem to bother him a lot. He was put on Lasix (a diuretic) for a week and was just fine. Hopefully your girl will continue to do well.
