The reason I ask is because if you like a regal breed you might want to look at the tosa inu, in Japan they are held in VERY high esteem and personally I think they're beautiful.

Personally, I would put the cat down. It's getting old and theres no telling how much longer it will live even after the operation. You've given it a good life, don't let it live on in pain.
