Rottluvr, can I just ask out of curiosity, why no anesthesia on the pup during surgery? Too small? Wouldn't the shock of all that pain alone be enough to kill a pup of such a young age?

I have heard that yogurt will cut down on a gassy problem. Don't have personal experience with it, but I have heard it works like charm.
