It is less likely for a tested dog to spread genetic problems if the breeder is responsible. The AKC is not the "breeder police." Are there BYB that are responsible.? YES. Are they common? NO. It is more common to find responsible show breeders...

You are worrying too much. Dogs mature faster than children. As long as you don't make a big deal of leaving, neither will your dog.
