Yes, I will always have a dog, or dogs. The only time I didn't have a dog was after I moved out on my own and wasn't in the right situation to have one. I did get a cat when I was 19 and he moved many places with me and lived to be almost 20.

The $38 was for the chip only. My former vet said that if I didn't register it, when it was scanned it would come up with their clinic address and that they would be able to tell who the dog belonged to by checking their database.

Great point Sonjavon. I have a 16 y.o. and 14 y.o. who so far are great kids, I know they aren't perfect but for the most part they are wonderful, but it takes a lot of work on everyones part.
