How about a boxer? Very protective and loving of kids. It wouldn't be the best guard dog, but will protect if needed.

I switched my dog from Nutro to Solid Gold (Bison) she really seems to like it. Only problem we have with better food is smelly gas. :)

I brought my dog to basic puppy training. We have a very good experience with them. Yes the dogs can and will be distracted by customers. If a dog can't listen to a command while company and distractions are around why bother. But like one poster...

If your dog was thirsty then got all worked up that can also cause foaming.
