Have an assistant restrain the bird. Examine nails to find blood vessels, so you know how far you can clip. This is only visible in light colored nails, so be especially careful with darker shade nails. Clip a small amount from nail tip. If bleeding occurs, dab the nail and apply styptic powder, flour or cornstarch. After initial trim, clip nail as needed.
