How to Use Your Heated Pet Pad. Easy to use. Just plug it in. The heated pet pad is intended for use indoors or outdoors, directly on a hard flat surface. It's unique heating system is designed to become warm, not hot, for safe use by pets. Power: The pad operates on normal household current (60 cycles, 110-120 volt AC). Never operate pad on DC current. The small and kitty size pads use 40 watts, the medium pad uses 60 watts, and the large pad uses 80 watts. Placement: When placing the pad in a closed area, such as a kennel or box, the pad should cover no more than half of the floor space so that an adult may sleep either on or off the heat. The cord is spring wrapped to help protect it from your pet's teeth and claws. The remainder of the cord should be placed out of reach of any animal. Heating: Allow 30 minutes for the pad to heat. It will feel slightly warm to the touch. Once an animal lies on it, the pad will reach its maximum temperature of approximately 102 degrees Fahrenheit. It is thermostatically controlled to this factory preset temperature range. Covering: The open-mesh fleece of our Heated Pad Cover (not included) is designed to allow heat to radiate properly. Avoid covering the pad with dense blanket-like materials which hold in the heat. Cleaning: The surface of your Heated Pet Pad is washable and my be wiped or hosed off when cord is unplugged. Reconnect the cord only when pad and plug are thoroughly dry. How to run the steel wrapped cord out of your doghouse: While the steel wrapped cord can be safely run out the front opening of any style, shape or size dog-house or shelter, you may want to run it out the back wall. Use a 1 1/4" space drill bit to drill a hole close to the base and push the plug and cord through the inside.
