Step 3: Adjust the Collar--Proper Fit: The collar fit should be snug, yet loose enough to allow one finger to fit between the strap and the dog's neck. Fit is important because a loose collar may cause inconsisten performance. It's okay to trim any excess strap length. Digital Advanced Trainers Understanding the Transmitter: This handled device signals the collar receiver to produce stimulation and/or tone. The transmitter is water-resistant and should not be immersed in water or placed in a dishwasher. ADV-1002 Users: Dog 1 - Provide stimulation for Dog 1. Uses continuous stimulation by the time you press the button. For short tap, press and release the button. For a longer signal, hold the button down. A maximum of 10 seconds may be applied before the safely feature to prevent over-correction engages. After 10 seconds, stimulation will be locked out for another 10 seconds. Level Down - decreases stimulation level for the dog indicated in that column. The Digital Display. When either the continuous or momentary buttons are pushed, the display will indicate the stimulation level being transmitted. For ADV 1002 users, after the stimulation button is released, the dog number (Dog1/Dog2) and stimulation level will alternate briefly. When the level UP or Level DOWN button is pushed, the display will show the new level of stimulation. LO BAT appears when the transmitter batteries needs to be replaced. Charging the Receiver. The receiver has a long-life NiMH battery. It will take 12-14 hours to fully charge and will operate up 72 hours between chargers depending on use and temperature. Extreme temperatures (hot or cold) can significantly affect battery life. Always charge at room temperature. Collar should be fullly charged once every 2-3 months. Always praise your dog for good behavior! Teach him what the commands mean before introducing the collar as a reinforcement tool. Keep training sessions brief, about ten minutes of training and then a rest or play period of at least equal length. Dogs learn through repetition. You mway have better success if you can elicit an undesired behavior when you can anticipate it. For example, if the dog misbehaves and jumps on visitors, have someone come in and out of the front door several times over a half-hour period. You'll be expecting it and will be ready to teach your dog the right behavior. Always end a training session on a positive note. Let the dog have success. This way he'll forward to the next session. Training should be fun for both you and your dog. Never train when you are angry. If you get frustrated during training, stop and come back to it later. Your dog will learn better when you are both relaxed. We recommend your dog be at least 6 months old before starting a remote training program. You will be asking your dog to concentrate for periods of time and to remember what you have taught. Young puppies do not necessarily have the required mental development or attention span for these activities. The goal of training is to condition your dog to respond to your verbal commands under all situations. You should plan on using the collar for at least four months. A good rule is, once started with a remote trainer, to alwlays have the collar on when you take the dog out. This will ensure that he will always be imprinted with the correct response to your commands and that you are always in control. If the transmitter LED is out, replace the transmitter batteries. Rematch the components as shown in Step 2 of the Quick Start Guide. Check that the probes are tightened. Ensure that the probes are touching the dog's skin. Trim the dog's hair or use the longer probes to ensure proper skin contact. Never shave the dog's neck. Use a stronger stimulation level.
