This hand-held transmitter is capable of controlling both collars and delivering four levels of correction with one of three tone options. When you first set up the handheld transmitter, you must insert the supplied 12-volt alkaline battery in the battery compartment of the transmitter. You can expect this battery to last up to three months depending on your use. When it's necessary to replace the battery, use only a 12-volt alkaline battery. Setting the ID Code: To set-up hand-held transmitter, you must select an ID Code to prevent interference from other systems that may be operating nearby. The BT-502A does this by randomly choosing one of 2,048 passwords that allows your hand-held transmitter to communicate only with your collar receiver[s]. It's highly unlikely that another system in your vicinity will have the same password. To set a random ID Code, follow these steps:Press and hold the PROGRAM button on the back of the hand-held transmitter. While holding the PROGRAM button, press and hold BUTTON 1 in the DOG 1 column on the front of the hand-held transmitter.Release only the PROGRAM button and continue to hold BUTTON 1. The light on the hand-held transmitter will blink alternately red and green lights. When the light stops blinking red and green, release BUTTON 1. The system automatically assigns one of 2,048 ID Codes to the DOG 1 column of the handheld transmitter and a different ID Code to the DOG 2 column. If you're training only one dog, you won't be using this column of buttons.Follow steps one through four on DOG 2 side of the transmitter to program the tone option for DOG 2.If the light on the hand-held transmitter flashed red five times during the above procedure, it means that you didn't hold one or more of the buttons long enough. Please repeat the above instructions and hold each button a bit longer.Selecting a Tone Option: Three tone options are available from the hand-held transmitter: Tone, No Tone, and Tone with One-Second Delay. The Tone option delivers a tone from the collar receiver at the same time the stimulation is delivered. The No-Tone option delivers only the stimulation. The Tone with One-Second Delay option delivers a tone from the collar receiver for one second before the stimulation is delivered. Some trainers like to use Tone or Tone with Delay when training their dogs. They feel that with this method, the dog will eventually associate the tone with obedience, which may make stimulation unnecessary. To learn more about training methods, consult your veterinarian or other qualified canine professional. To program tone options for DOG 1 side, please follow these steps:Press and hold the PROGRAM button on the back of the hand-held transmitter. While holding the PROGRAM button, press and hold one of the following buttons to make your tone option selection:BUTTON 2 = Tone optionBUTTON 3 = No-Tone optionBUTTON 4 = Tone with One-Second Delay optionRelease only the PROGRAM button while continuing to hold the selected tone option button. When the light on the hand-held transmitter goes out, release the selected tone option button.Setting Up the Collar Receivers: Set up the collar receivers by inserting a supplied 6-volt alkaline battery in the battery compartment of each collar. When it is necessary to change a collar receiver battery, always use a 6-volt alkaline model. Whenever you have replaced a battery in a collar receiver, the collar receiver must be matched to the hand-held transmitter before the collar can be used. Don't put the collar on the dog until the hand-held transmitter has been programmed and the collar receiver has been matched to it.Matching the Components: After the programming of the hand-held transmitter is complete, it must be matched to the collar receiver. This allows the signal and information from the hand-held transmitter to be received by the collar receiver. Please follow these steps to match the two components:Hold the red paper dot of the collar receiver to the red paper dot of the hand-held transmitter for five to eight seconds. The light on the collar receiver will first be solid, then go out, and come back on solid yellow. It's important that you see the solid yellow light before proceeding. When the solid yellow light appears on the collar receiver, separate the two components about one foot. The light on the collar receiver will blink yellow.Press and hold BUTTON 1 under DOG 1 for approximately three seconds. The light on the collar receiver will pulsate red to indicate that the signal from the buttons in the DOG 1 column of the hand-held transmitter will activate this collar receiver. If a second collar is to be used, repeat steps 1 and 2 above. Press and hold BUTTON 1 in the DOG 2 column for approximately three seconds. The light on the collar receiver will pulsate red to indicate that the signal from the buttons in the DOG 2 column of the hand-held transmitter will activate the second collar receiver.Important Note About Testing SystemBefore putting the collar receiver on your dog, manually test the system using the supplied test light. To manually test the system, position the test light on the probes so that the tips of the probes make contact with the wires inside the two openings. Gentle pressure may be needed. Press one of the stimulation buttons on the hand-held transmitter, and the lamp should light. The light will be dim for mild stimulation and bright for intense stimulation. Only when certain the collar is responding properly to the signals from the transmitter, should you proceed with fitting the collar to your dog.Turning the Collar On and Off: The collar's ON/OFF switch is indicated by the red paper dot on the side of the receiver. It is activated by the transmitter's magnet, also indicated by a red paper dot. To turn the collar on, briefly touch the transmitter's red paper dot against the red paper dot on the collar receiver. A flashing green light on the collar receiver verifies the collar is on and ready for use. To turn the collar off, touch the transmitter's red paper dot against the red paper dot on the collar receiver. A brief, sold red light and tone followed by no light on the collar receiver verifies the collar has been turned off.Using the Hand-Held Transmitter: The hand-held transmitter has four preset levels of correction. BUTTON 1 delivers the mildest stimulation; BUTTON 4 delivers the most intense stimulation. The stimulation will continue as long as you press the button, up to a maximum of ten seconds. After ten seconds, the collar will lock out any further stimulations for a period of ten seconds. This is a safety feature that prevents over-correcting the dog. Once the lock-out period ends, the stimulation button must be released and pressed again to correct the dog. A green pulsating light on the hand-held transmitter when any button is pressed indicates that the transmitter is sending a signal to the collar receiver. A red pulsating light on the hand-held transmitter when any button is pressed indicates that the 12-volt alkaline battery is low and should be replaced.
