How to Set-Up Your Betta GardenBriefly rinse the gravel and pour it into the bowl. Save some of the gravel to put into the recessed part of the cover after the bowl has been set up. Fill the bowl with tap water of about room temperature to within 1/2" of the neck of the bowl. To rid the water of chlorine, which is poisonous to fish, you can simply let the set-up bowl stand for two to three days. During this aging process, the chlorine will naturally disappear from the water. Alternatively, you can use the chlorine neutralizer included in this kit. This immediately renders the water safe for fish. Carefully follow the directions on the packet.Introducing Your Betta to Your Betta GardenWhen you buy your betta, you will receive it in a plastic bag filled with little water and lots of air. At home, keep the unopened bag in the same room with the set-up Betta Garden for at least 20 minutes. During this time, the water in the bag will gradually acquire the same temperature as the water in the bowl. You can then safely transfer the fish from the bag to the bowl. Use a small fish net to transfer the betta from the bag to the bowl. If you don't have a net, carefully pour most of the water from the bag into your sink (be careful not to pour out the fish). Then hold the open bag over the bowl and let the fish gently slide into the water. Place cover with floral arrangement on bowl and add gravel to cover. Live plants or cuttings may be substituted by simply removing the cover and silk floral arrangement.FeedingFeed only what your betta can eat within a few minutes. Food that is not eaten quickly will start to rot and pollute the water. Follow the instructions on the food package.MaintenanceTo maintain good water conditions, remove about one half of the water weekly and replace it with aged or de-chlorinated water of the same temperature. Every four to six weeks make a complete water change. Place your betta into a suitable container. Rinse the gravel and the stems of the plant and wipe the sides of the bowl with a soft cloth. Do not use soap or detergents. Refill the bowl with aged or dechlorinated water of the same temperature and return the betta to the bowl.Made in China.
