InstallationCaution: Disconnect the plugs of all the appliances inside the aquarium before putting your hands in the water.Water Circulation OperationPowerhead 10Remove the motor cover and the impeller cover. Install the three suction cups in the holes on the back panel of the pump. Put the covers back on. Securely place the pump against the glass of the aquarium by pressing firmly to ensure that the pump holds. Install the hose adapter. Use the sliding bar at the bottom of the pump to control the flow of water.Powerhead 20 & 30Powerheads 20 and 30 come with an adjustable rim attachment and a suction cup bracket. The adjustable rim attachment is designed to be fastened on most aquarium frames. The suction cup bracket allows custom installation where it is not desirable to clamp the powerhead over the rim of the tank. Use the part that is best suited for your needs. The powerhead can easily slide into either part for secure installation.Undergravel Filter OperationPowerhead 10Remove the motor cover and the base cover. Install the three suction cups in the holes on the back panel of the pump. Put the covers back on. Attach the swiveling elbow connector (if required to align the water intake to the riser stem of the undergravel filer) and the stem adapter to the powerhead. Set the stem adapter (with powerhead attached) into the undergravel riser stem and then firmly press the suction cups against the aquarium glass.Powerhead 20 & 30Determine the difference in height between the rim of the aquarium and the seated position of the stem adapter in the undergravel filer stem (about 3 1/2"). Cut or adjust the undergravel filter stem to the correct height. Seat the powerhead stem adapter in the undergravel filter stem and rotate the clamp knob on the adjustable rim attachment to securely tighten the clamp to the required aquarium rim width. If you are using the suction cup bracket, install it by pressing it firmly against the aquarium glass and then slide in the powerhead.Quick Filter OperationThe powerhead can easily be converted to a Quick Filter to remove dirt and debris quickly. The Quick Filter can be obtained from your local pet dealer. Place a Quick Filter cartridge in the Quick Filter attachment (if not already installed).Powerhead 10Place the swivel elbow stem connector over the intake of the pump. Firmly attach the Quick Filter to the swivel elbow stem connector.Powerhead 20 & 30Firmly insert the powerhead strainer plate into the Quick Filter. Place the unit in the aquarium in the desired location and clamp or use suction cups to keep in position. After all proper installation procedures are completed, connect the power cord to the electrical outlet.Note: Aquariums which use very fine grade gravel or sand may require nylon mesh placed over the strainer to prevent the powerhead from clogging.Important: The powerhead must operate continuously to sustain filtering action and beneficial bacteria. Do not unplug the powerhead for periods in excess of one hour to avoid the reduction of the biological filtration.Important SafeguardsWarning.
