API PondCare Spring & Autumn Premium Pellet Pond FoodFish metabolism is directly related to water temperature. Fish are cold-blooded which means their body temperature is the same as the temperature of water. In cool water; the fish's metabolism is slow, and their digestion of protein is poor. Much of the protein that fish eat is only partially digested and is eliminated in their waste and converted rapidly into toxic ammonia, which pollutes the water. Spring & Autumn Premium Pellets are formulated to provide fish with the proper proportions of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and amino acids needed for cool water feeding. Using pellets when pond water is cool will help lead to cleaner, clearer water and healthier, more colorful fish.
When water temperature is cool, 42 - 70°F, feed pond fish two to four times a day, in amounts no greater than they can consume within a few minutes. The floating pellets quickly soften, so even small fish can feed with ease. Spring & Autumn pellets can also be used during the summer months to add variety to the diet of pond, and can also be used in the summer when adding new fish to a pond, thereby preventing increased ammonia while the pond's biological filter adjusts to the greater fish load.
