Place heater on either the right or left side of terrarium and gently rub heater to make firm contact with the bottom glass. This allows one side of your terrarium to be warmer than the other, thus giving your animals a natural temperature variance.Substrate (Very Important): You must use some type of substrate material on the bottom of your terrarium in order for the Repti Therm UTH to work properly. Good substrate choices are Zoo Med's Repti Cage Carpet, Zoo Med's Repti Sand or Zoo Med's Repti Bark. You may also use astroturf or aquarium gravel. If using very lightweight substrates such as pine shavings or sphagnum moss, then you must put one layer of Zoo Med's Repti Cage Carpet down first with the substrate above the carpet. This prevents burrowing type reptiles from burrowing down through the lightweight substrate and resting on top of the glass directly above the heater, resulting in possible burns.Substrate Note: When using natural type substrates such as Repti Bark, gravel, sand, pine shavings, etc., it is important to use no more or less than 1 1/2 inches deep of substrate/bedding.Helpful Hints: Do not use any wood shavings that have added cedar (red chips) with reptiles as they could cause potential nerve damage to your reptiles.Rubber Feet: Attach the enclosed rubber feet to each bottom corner of your terrarium. This will slightly elevate your terrarium allowing any excess heat to escape from the bottom. Caution: Make sure your terrarium is resting on a table or aquarium stand and not place on carpet (on the floor or otherwise). Placing it on the floor will encapsulate heat and may result in stress cracks in the glass of your terrarium.Plug Heater In: The Repti Therm UTH and Repti Therm Mini are designed to slowly heat the bottom glass, then the bottom terrarium substrate, and finally the inside air of your terrarium. The Repti Therm heater will take minimum of six hours before you get an accurate temperature reading in your terrarium.Product includes complete eight page instruction manual.Read and follow all manufacturer warnings, precautions, instructions, and directions included with and on product.Made in Mexico.
