Important safety instructions. Read and follow all safety instructions. Danger: Special care should be taken to avoid possible electric shock, since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. Do not attempt any repairs by yourself; return the appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.WARNING: To guard against injury, observe basic safety precautions, including the following: 1. If the appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source. 2. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. Unplug the appliance if there is water on parts not intended to get wet. 3. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it is malfunctioning, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner. 4. To avoid getting the appliance plug or receptacle wet, position the aquarium to the side of a wall-mounted outlet in order to prevent water from dripping onto the plug or outlet. Arrange a "drip loop" for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to an outlet. (See Illustration A.) The "drip loop" is the part of the cord below the level of the outlet (or if using an extension cord, below the level of the connector) that prevents water from traveling along the cord and coming in contact with outlet. 5. If the plug or outlet should get wet, don't unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Once the power has been disconnected, unplug the cord and examine it for the presence of water in the outlet. 6. Always unplug the appliance from an outlet when it is not in use. Also unplug it before cleaning, and prior to disconnecting or attaching parts. Never yank the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect. 7. Do not use an appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not use attachments that are not recommended or sold by the manufacturer; they may cause an unsafe condition. 8. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing. 9. Make sure the appliance is securely installed before operating it. 10. If an extension cord is necessary, use a cord with a rating that matches or exceeds the rating of the appliance. A cord rated for fewer amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Arrange the cord so that it will not trip anybody, and that it will not be pulled in any way. 11. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, the plug will fit in polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug, If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless the plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature. 12. Avoid injury, do not touch moving parts. 13. Supervise children closely when they are near or using the appliance.Set-up and Installation of your new ReptoFilter. 1. Insert suction cups as shown. When pressed firmly and twisted, the suction cups will fit snugly into the holes in the back of the ReptoFilter. If they don't go in easily, a small screwdriver can be used to gently guide the suction cups into the holes. 2. Insert the filter cartridge and foam grid as shown. (Note: The front of the foam grid is marked "front" and should face the front of the filter.) 3. Insert ReptoFilter inside the aquarium and press the suction cups against the aquarium glass. Drape wire over the aquarium wall. 4. The lip of the ReptoFilter should be above the water level, and the bottom of the filter should be submerged in at least two inches of water. When positioning plants and other items, take care to leave a 1/2" clearance around the filter's intake area. 5. Attach ReptoFilter lid.Helpful Hints. When cleaning the ReptoFilter, unplug the unit. Do not use detergents or soap, as residue may be harmful to fish.It is recommended to put sand in the aquarium when using the ReptoFilter. If the Foam Grid becomes clogged, remove and wash with water until debris is removed. The filter cartridge should be replaced every four weeks. To change the cartridge, unplug the ReptoFilter, remove and replace the cartridge, then re-plug the ReptoFilter. When medicating fish, remove the Filter Cartridge, as it absorbs most medication. If the motor is noisy, unplug the ReptoFilter and remove it from the aquarium. Remove the motor, open the cover, and flush gravel, leaves, or other debris, with cool water. Replace the motor into the ReptoFilter, mount the ReptoFilter in the aquarium, and re-plug the unit. When adding tap water to the aquarium, use AquaSafe water conditioner to neutralize harmful chlorine and chloramines.
