Daily Feeding InstructionsFeed Exact Rainbow every day in a clean food cup following guidelines below. Adjust to the bird's actual needs and spillage. Provide a clean, fresh supply of water daily.Macaw: 1/2 to 1 cupCockatoo: 1/2 to 1 cupAmazon: 1/2 cupAfrican Grey: 1/2 cupEclectus: 1/2 cupPionus: 1/3 cupConure: 1/3 cupExact Rainbow is designed to be the bird's sole diet. Limit additional foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, or other treats to 20% of the bird's total diet. When used as directed, no additional vitamin or mineral supplements are recommended.Converting to Exact RainbowIf your bird is not familiar with a processed food, use one of the three following conversion methods. Watch your bird closely during any conversion method to insure it is receiving the right amount of food.If any problems result, or if your bird is being extremely difficult to convert, return to the previous step in the conversion process. After approximately seven days, continue with the conversion process.Portions MethodThis method is recommended since it is fast and safe for all healthy birds. Phase Exact into your bird's daily diet by mixing it with the current seed diet. Best results are achieved when you limit the total quantity of food available to match the suggested daily feeding amount.Day 1 - 3: one part Exact/three parts current foodDay 4 - 8: two parts Exact/two parts current foodDay 9 - 14: three parts Exact/one part current foodAfter 14 Days: Feed Exact only--your bird should be completely converted.Free Choice MethodThis method is the simplest but takes the longest time since the bird is given more opportunity to select its familiar food. Follow instructions for the Portions Method, but provide more than the recommended daily amount. After 14 days, continue for another two weeks by putting Exact in the bottom of the cup. Sprinkle a small amount of the current food (about 10%) on top. Gradually reduce the amount of current food or offer it on alternate days. This method is very easy on the bird since the bird is able to choose what it eats and slowly adapt to the new diet.Within one month, even the most difficult bird can be converted with this method.Immediate ConversionThis method works best with young birds and those accustomed to a widely varied diet. Sudden food changes may be refused by finicky eaters and may be dangerous to birds which are not healthy. Observe your bird closely when using this method. Check its body weight or breast muscle size to watch for weight loss. If your bird loses over 10% of its body weight, provide a mixture of current food and Exact for about three days before returning exclusively to Exact.Important NotesConversion time may vary. Observe your bird closely. If you have any questions regarding the conversion process, call the Kaytee Helpline toll-free 1-800-KAYTEE1.When more than one bird is kept in a cage, monitor birds very closely and extend the conversion process beyond 14 days by following the free choice method.Initial acceptance of Exact can be improved by moistening with fruit juice. Be sure to remove uneaten portion within four hours to prevent spoilage. The color of droppings may not be consistent, but they should be well formed.Storage InstructionsFor maximum freshness, store in a cool dry location. Reseal between use. Refrigerate or freeze for extended use.
