German Shepherd Dog

The playful Jack Russell Terrier has made its way into people's homes and hearts. The breed is well known in the news, on the big screen and even in television. Some examples of famous Jack Russell Terriers follow.

Bothie is the only dog in recorded history to visit both the North and South Poles. He accompanied Ranulf Fiennes on his expeditions. Bothie was voted dog of the year in 1982.

Wishbone is perhaps the most popular Jack Russell of all time. The feisty Wishbone was the star of the children's television series of the same name, which aired on American television from 1995-2001. PBS, an American public broadcast station, still shows re-runs. Wishbone was dubbed "the little dog with the big imagination." He would daydream of being the famous characters out of literature. The series won several Emmies, a Peabody Award and Honors from the television Critics Association.

Who does not know Eddie, the passive Jack Russell Terrier, featured as Martin Crane's dog on the ever-popular sitcom, Frasier? When Moose, the original Eddie, became too old for the more active parts, his son, Enzo filled in. Moose passed away in July of 2006.

Both Moose and Enzo played in the 2000 movie My Dog Skip, which was based on the book My Dog Skip by Willie Morris. The story depicts Willie, a 9-year-old boy, who is victimized by three bullies from school. When Skip is brought into his life, Willie discovers a new friend. The movie received the Broadcast Film Critics Award for Best Family Film for the year 2000, Silver Medal Giffoni Film Festival Award, Best Cast Young Star Awards, Silver Angel Award winner, ArkTrust Genises Award and the Christopher Award for Best Family Film.

There was a Jack Russell Terrier in the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, but it met its demise when it was eaten alive by a snake.

Barclay, the actor, is a Jack Russell Terrier who played the role of Nippy in the hit movie, Problem Child 2. Junior Healy is a little boy with a bad attitude and the poor dog bears the brunt of a lot of his antics. This 1997 movie known as a sleeper film, received three nominations that year.

Chalky, a Jack Russell Terrier, is the famous partner of a British restaurant owner, Rick Stein. Not only does Chalky participate in the cooking series, but the dog actually has his own line of merchandise, including, towels, art prints, paw prints and even his own real ale - Chalky's Bite. He earned a BBC obituary when he died in 2007."

A Jack Russell Terrier is featured as a "patronus" in the famous Harry Potter books and movies series. A patronus is said to protect wizards and witches from dark magic.

A Jack Russell Terrier is referred to as the smartest breed of dog and is seen in the 1995 submarine movie Crimson Tide, starring Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington.

And last but not least, we cannot forget Milo, the Jack Russell Terrier portrayed in the movie The Mask. This little terror terrier was none other than Moose who played Eddie, on the Frasier series. Talk about a Jekyll and Hyde turn about.
