Those that are thinking of adopting an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog may be concerned with aggression. The truth is, while they might look like a threat and will defend their property and family if provoked, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, like other bulldog breeds, are not inherently aggressive. In this article, we'll take a look at their history for clues to why they are thought of as aggressive and what you can do to prevent aggressive behavior in your Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog.

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is a descendant of the Old English Bulldog, which enjoyed a long and colorful history in its native England. Some reports claim that these dogs were known of as early as the 16th century. These fierce dogs earned their name through their curious purpose they were developed solely for the sport called bull baiting.Old English Bulldogs were trained to latch on to a bull's nose in an effort to suffocate the animal while trying to avoid being trampled. In order to aid them in this task, they were bred with quite a different body type they were lean and long legged, as opposed to today's bulldogs that are shorter legged and much squatter in body. The origins of this blood sport are lost to time, although there is some speculation that is was the butchers that gave the suggestion that the meat of the bull was more tender and flavorful after the struggle.

Bull baiting was outlawed in 1835, and since their purpose was taken away, their development changed drastically. Their temperament became much more docile and their body types went from long and lean to short and squat. By the time they made their way to America, these dogs were intelligent, highly trainable and made excellent guard dogs.

Generally speaking, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are not aggressive, but there are some factors that could make one so, much like any other breed. The first is the breeder, who must be responsible for culling any dogs that have natural aggressive tendencies from their breeding program. Most Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are very careful to breed any aggressiveness out of their breeding program. If you are considering adopting one of these rare dogs, it would be best if you could visit the breeder and spend time with their dogs to see their temperaments in person.

Aggressiveness can also develop in any dog that is not properly trained or is not given enough attention. It is very important to train your dog as early as possible, which will not only teach the dog to understand what is expected of him, but will reinforce the idea, even in the most dominant of breeds, that he is not the top of the pecking order in your household. Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs are reported to be extremely devoted to their "person" and their families and require a lot of attention. These dogs thrive on interaction and play and will suffer if left alone for very long periods.

The bottom line is if the thought of an aggressive dog is the reason you hesitate to adopt an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, you can put your fears to rest. With good breeding and training, these dogs can be docile and playful, making an excellent companion dog for you and your family.
