Taking care of an American bulldog is no easy feat, but then again, taking care of any living thing is no easy feat. An American bulldog is a very hardy breed of dog that can be a very gracious and loyal pet if taken care of properly and carefully. Included in your duties as an American bulldog owner is the necessary vaccinations your dog should have, feeding it, grooming it, and training it. These responsibilities are yours from the moment you get yourself the dog, and how you go about taking care of your bulldog translates to how happy and healthy your pet will be.

Feeding your Bulldog

Nutrition is an essential part of bulldog care and what you feed your bulldog can easily result in how healthy or unhealthy your dog may become. Your bulldog's diet should include a lot of the different nutrients that he needs to support his rather massive build and finding the kind of food that can give him all his dietary requirements is essential to his proper growth and health. Along with clean, fresh water, your bulldog should have meals that have the right balance of protein, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and even fats. The food you choose for your dog should also have certain considerations for your pet's age, allergies, special conditions like if your dog is pregnant or sick, and others. You can find well balanced dog food from certain dog food brands in the market but you may need to check the labels on their packages to help you ascertain which one is right for your bulldog.

Vaccinations, Vitamins, and De-worming

This is one step that you should never skip when it comes to taking care of your American bulldog. When you first acquire a bulldog pup, it is advisable that you take it to the nearest veterinarian you know or who is in your neighborhood and have your pup checked for whatever vaccinations and medications it may need. Your vet will advise you on what medications are needed for your dog as well as which vitamins are best for your bulldog. Your vet can also de-worm your dog for you to help him get rid of any of the worms that may be in your dog's system. He can also give you advice on when to bring your dog back in for checkups and follow ups on vaccines and vitamins.

Exercise

To keep ourselves healthy, we eat a balanced diet, get enough sleep, and of course, exercise. The same goes for your American bulldog. These canines can get to become very big and exercise will help keep their weight down a bit as well as keep them healthy. Keeping them inside a home, they basically do not get to move around a lot which is why it is necessary to have them exercised or taken for a walk once a day.
