Airedale Terriers

As many people choose to get a Kerry Blue Terrier, they are not sure of all the different uses for them. In fact, most people either get them for being a pet or possibly a show dog. However, many people are unaware that they are now being used as a working dog.

When people think of dogs as being working dogs, they are not sure if they want that for the dog. However, many of those people think that the dogs get worked to the point of exhaustion; but that is not true. Most often the dogs are usually used outside or for the good of the people. There are many different ways that the Kerry Blue Terriers are being used and none of them involve being abused.

In the history of the Kerry Blue Terrier, they are known to be from Ireland; Kerry, Ireland. Not only that, but they were also mostly used for hunting. In fact, many of them were used for hunting otters that were in deep water; which of course means that they are excellent swimmers. In Ireland, they were also used for herding up cattle and guarding, as well as fighting. Today, the Kerry Blue Terrier is either a working dog or a companion.

Because the Kerry Blue Terriers are high spirited and head strong, they are like the Airedale Terrier and are the best terriers for work. Not only are they best terrier for work, but they are also strong, fast, and intelligent. Like most other terriers, the Kerry Blue Terrier was bred to follow their master's orders, along with being able to work independently. They were also bred to have a fearless attitude as well as them having a tenacity of never giving up. Because they were bred for those qualities, they are a very willful dog along with being less obedient than other breeds.

Because the Kerry Blue Terriers are more independent, they can also be very aggressive and outspoken. Therefore, when they are puppies it is highly recommended that they are put into socialization as well as obedience classes. Otherwise, when around other animals or people they may be very dangerous. Because obedience classes are given to Kerry Blue Terriers so often, they now do very well in obedience, agility, herding, and tracking. When it comes to herding animals, they herd a variety of animals; however, they are mainly sheep or cows. In Ireland, many of the Kerry Blue Terriers are now being used for police and military dogs as well. Because many of them are now police dogs, many people are getting the Blue Terriers for their own guard dogs. Once some of the dogs are highly trained and trusted, they may also then become search and rescue dogs as well as therapy dogs; which is a great honor for this breed.

When choosing a Kerry Blue Terrier, you must first decide if you want it as a companion or as a work dog. Either way, you will have to train it extensively; as it will need all the training it can get. However, you must also treat it as it was a part of the family.
