  • The Clydesdale horse first of all gets its name from a river in Scotland, the Clyde River. Anheuser Busch brewing company, better known for producing Bud Lite and Budweiser beers, were actually the ones to introduce the Clydesdale horse in 1933, because some of the main ingredients for the new flavor back then came from the Scotland. They have used them in much of their advertising. The most common names the Busch Company gave their horses were Mark, Duke, Captain, and Bud. They would give them short names so during shows it would be easier to give the proper commands. Since then, other beer brewery companies have used the Clydesdale as mascots and such.

  • In Wisconsin, there is a popular Clydesdale ranch. They give a 90-minute show on how the horses are prepared for shows and competitions, and visitors are even given the opportunities to pet the many baby Clydesdales.

  • In the United Kingdom, the Clydesdale is used as military mount for the guards. They were used for drum horses; they would then carry the 90-pound kettledrum with marching bands, as they are quite the parade and show horse. In fact, in places like the United States and Ireland they are referred to as drum horses or Gypsy Vanner horses.

  • In 2005, a Clydesdale horse named "Icy," who was named for her mother who fell into an icy pond while pregnant with her, was honored by being named one of the nation's best.

  • Held for the first time ever on American soil was the World Clydesdale Show in October 2007, in which over 600 Clydesdale horses were present.

  • Clydesdale horses are seen as horses of class and sophistication; they are often used in big cities as carriage horses providing a classy and memorable alternative to riding around in a taxi. New York City, in particular, is a regular stomping ground for the horses that are used in the many carriage services that move around the city and Central Park. They are also sometimes used in funerals for pulling the car or carriage that contains the casket, usually in funerals of someone that was important such as soldiers that have fallen in battle.

  • The Clydesdale is not a big worker horse on a farm. One reason for this is the feathering toward the bottom of the hooves can become easily tangled and later matted. This can cause health problems for the horse since they can become an area of infection. Another reason these horses aren’t meant for the farm life is their hooves are too big to fit into the furrows, so this prevents them from doing any kind of plow work. So this why they are mostly used for carriages and hauling cattle in winter since they are known for their strength and ability to pull heavy loads with ease due to their size. Since they were known for strength and endurance, they were often used in the timber industry.

  • Sometimes the distinction between Clydesdale and Shire horses is hard to make due to the similar physical qualities.
