  • There are a relatively small number of Brazilian Sport Horses and only about 50 are exported each year. Most exported Brazilian Sport Horses are bought by breeders, trainers, and riders in the United States and Europe.

  • There have been several Brazilian Sport Horses that have already competed in Olympic events. In 1996 four Brazilian Sport Horses, Aspen, Adelfos, Cassiano Joter, and Calei Joter, competed in the Atlanta Olympics and in Syndey in 2000. Marco Metodo, Aspen, and Calei Joter made a great showing.

  • The Brazilian Sport Horse may be registered in several different international types of sport horse registries. The Brazilian Sports Horse Breeders Association currently contains approximately 150 breeders from all over Brazil and parts of North and South America.

  • Brazilian Sport Horses are a type rather than a distinct breed. They are bred to embody all the characteristics of the Warmbloods but also be light, athletic, and quick. Often the Brazilian Sports Horse is most commonly seen in competitions in show jumping, dressage, eventing, and hunter type classes.

  • Brazilian Sport Horses are also seen in a greater number of endurance races. The breed has a high level of stamina and a natural competitiveness that makes them ideal for this type of a grueling competition.

  • Sergio Campos is a famous rider and competitor from Brazil that routinely rides Brazilian Sport Horses to championships in many different national and international Grand Prix competitions.

  • In Brazil this sporty and athletic horse is known as Brasileiro de Hipismo. Although specifically bred for competition, the Brazilian Sport Horse also makes a great all around horse. They are typically highly trained and very specially cared for during their training and competitive life.

  • The Brazilian Sport Horse has to pass a rigorous inspection before they will be entered into the breed registry. Horses are tested for their overall abilities, temperament, and conformation to the goals of the Breeder's Association.

  • There are sport horses in almost any country and area and they are popular in almost all countries. Sport horses such as the Brazilian Sport Horse are often used for more than just equestrian events in the area; they may also be used for steeplechase type events, long distance endurance events, and even for driving.

  • The Brazilian Sport Horse has been bred to have a very willing personality and temperament in the ring. This means they can be ridden by even younger riders and those without much experience provided the horse has been properly trained. Sport horses at the Olympic level or those that compete on the national level are often reported to have as much enthusiasm for the events as their riders do.

  • Brazilian Sport Horses typically fully mature before any types of intensive training programs are started. It is not unusual for these high level competitive horses to not start their professional careers until they are four to five years old, but they can continue to compete until they are into their early to mid teens.
