  • The Hungarian Warmblood, or the Hungarian Sport Horse as it is also referred, was developed in the Mezohegyes State Stud in Hungary. This breed of horse was developed through the selective breeding of other native horses of Hungary. It was bred with other native Hungary horses such as Nonius, Kisber Felver, Gidran, and Furioso-North Star. These horses were also used to further the improvements of other breeds such as Holsteiner, Hanoverian, and the Dutch Warmblood. It was through these efforts that a warmblood sport horse was established. Today, it is a horse of competition, particularly in such events as show jumping, dressage, cross country, and combined driving.

  • These days though the breeding stallions of the Hungarian Warmblood must meet strict inspections and then they have to be granted a license and/or be approved by the breeding committee and finally, they must meet the sporting requirements.

  • This breed has its list of horses that have made a name for themselves, particularly International Winners. The most well known winners are horses like "Virtual Village Randi" and was ridden by John Whitaker has had wins in major Grand Prixs at Guttenberg, Valkensward, Dublin, Monterrey, and Paris. Another was "Heritage Poker" and this horse was ridden by Marcus Beerbaum and finally "Kemal", who competed along side of "Heritage Poker" in the Volvo World Cup Championships and the Olympic Games.

  • The combination of all the different Hungarian breeds produced what some might call the perfect sport horse; the combination of the qualities such as the endurance, speed, stamina, and heart of the different breeds of horse make this so. It is a strong horse of great elegance, something that the heavier breeds don't have. They also possess a great intelligence and disposition. The strongest quality that it inherited was the powerful hindquarters; these have made this horse quite the winner in the show jumping competitions. However, the most acceptable breed crosses are that of the Thoroughbred, other warmbloods, or other licensed approved breeding stock.

  • These horses today fetch a hefty price; they can range from anywhere of 3,500 dollars clear up to 12,000 dollars; these horses are not cheap. There are ads for these horses all over the internet.

  • These horses can be traced clear back to before 800 A.D., they trace back to a stock of what were called "meadow horses". Many generations of Arab, Turkish, and Persian blood were added to line throughout the centuries. It was in the 1600s, that Spanish blood was added and came with it, great speed, and beauty. When the English Thoroughbred was introduced in the 18th century, it was considered the "final touch" on a perfect breeding heritage. Since these horses were produced without the help of any draft horse, also known as coldblood horses. The addition of blood has always been considered an enhancement in a breed, the Hungarian people had a saying "BLUT IS DER SAFT DER WUNDERSCHAFT" which translates into "blood is the juice that works miracles".
