How Big Will The Dogue de Bordeaux Get?

The Dogue de Bordeaux will grow to be over one hundred pounds with a height of about twenty-three to thirty inches and the strength of a horse. The dogs are loving and protective. With such a large dog, you might wonder exactly how much room you will need to properly care for the Dogue. Many people think that because of the size, the dogs need big yards and big houses to live in. The truth is very different.

Apartment Living

The Dogue de Bordeaux lives comfortably in an apartment, but they do need exercise, since when in the house the Dogue is usually inactive. They prefer the outside activity of walking, running around a yard or a dog park and just laying around in the sun. Inside, they will be the perfect dog. Therefore, a small apartment is fine for the Dogue as long as they can exercise outside daily so they do not lie around and become overweight. They do need to exercise their legs and bodies daily.

The issue with apartment living is that they have to wait for you, the owner, to take them for a walk. They might even not want to take a walk, but they have to go regardless, as it is healthy to keep exercising.

Country Living

Country living is perfect for the Dogue de Bordeaux. They will be able to run freely, after being trained of course, and have their own space away from everyone else. Although they do well in city apartments, it is nice for them to have a place to run whenever they want. As long as they have enough room and can walk, run or roll around outside, the Dogue will refrain from becoming lazy, as you would call it.

Living In A House With A Large Fenced In Yard

If you have a house with a fenced in yard, you could install a doggie door, which allows the Dogue to come and go, as they need. This is a great idea, except the Dogue might need some encouragement to come and go. They can be lazy by nature, especially if they are not encouraged at a young age to walk, run and play. You may even find that they tend to go outside and lie down; this is fine as long as they are getting some type of exercise. Any type of movement helps keep them strong and healthy.

The Lazy Dogue De Bordeaux

The Dogue de Bordeaux can be lazy. You have to keep after them and make sure they have the needed exercise wherever they live. In all, the Dogue can live in any sized apartment or house as long as you make sure they have plenty of opportunity to exercise. You could have a two room efficiency apartment and they will do fine. They do not have a great deal of ambition when inside. They are couch dwellers and love to lie around and watch what is going on around them.
