The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is considered the dog of royalty in England. The Pembroke and the Cardigan were recognized as two separate breeds in 1934. In 1931, the first Pembroke Welsh Corgi was introduced into the United States. In 1935, the American Kennel Club recognized the two breeds. The first recording there is for a Pembroke Welsh Corgi being in a dog show was in 1925, in Wales.

Some Famous Television And Movie Pembroke Welsh Corgi's

The 1997 "Robinson Crusoe" movie had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Skipper. "Murder She Purred: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery" had a Corgi who along with a cat tried to solve a murder mystery. There were many different stereotypes referenced in the movie about the Corgi such having a silly behavior and having a love of food.

The television show "Cowboy Bebop" had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi playing Ein, the data dog. The book "The Courageous Corgi" was written about a Welsh Corgi as a stray. Lea Herrick wrote the book.

Other Known Tidbits

Corgi's was the name behind the Internet cartoon Sigroc, which is Corgi's spelled backwards. The Nintendo videogame Nintendogs also portrays a puppy, which is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

There are many variations of the meaning of the dog breeds name, but the most founded is that "cor" mean dwarf and "gi" means dog. This is the popular one because they are a "dwarf dog" in looks.

Did you know that a Pembroke Welsh Corgi does not have a tail, their tail is docked at birth and for a show dog, it has to be less than two inches long and flush with the with their back?

Welsh Corgi's shed hair all year long and are said to shed more than a German Shepherd or a Husky. In addition, a Corgi's coat is waterproof. It has natural repellent to water.

There are two types of Corgi's, the Pembroke and the Cardigan. At one time, the Cardigan and the Pembroke were considered the same dog. They have been considered cousins since the breed was separated in 1934. It has been said that the plural of Corgi is Corgyn. This comes from ancient times when the Corgi first evolved.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi's have stamps of them around the world. The 1994 Caribbean stamp "The Year Of The Dog" has a picture of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a merle Cardigan Corgi. There are many stamps for collectors from different countries that have stamps available to buy in sheets or as separates.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the smallest dog in the herding group. The dog has one of the best dispositions from other breeds and is sometimes shy. The shy Pembroke Welsh Corgi can be disqualified from showing.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a loveable and gentle dog that can live in a small apartment and will be happy just sitting on you lap. They are used for therapy in hospitals and nursing homes because of their good nature and loving ways. They also make great dogs for the hearing impaired because they are easily trained and have a keen sense of hearing.
