The Xoloitzcuintli is one of the most agile dogs in the world. This rare breed is one of the oldest breeds in the world and it is known for its energy and athleticism. A Xoloitzcuintli is a swift runner. It is light footed and it shows graceful movements as it runs and jumps. Because of its alertness, the Xolo is perfect as a watchdog, but not a guard dog because it is small in size. These characteristics make the Xoloitzcuintli a great companion that is ideal as a family pet, a therapy dog, as well as a competition dog. It can excel in Agility, Conformation, and Obedience competition events.

With its great physical and mental abilities, the Xoloitzcuintli will make an outstanding showing in Agility competitions. Despite having smaller strides, the Xolo can outdo many larger dogs in Agility exercises because it possesses great speed and flexibility. It also possesses excellent mental versatility to enable it to overcome any challenge it may face. While other breeds were originally bred for specific purposes such as herding or hunting, the Xoloitzcuintli is an all-purpose dog. It can revise its strategy. Being a primitive breed, it possesses very sharp instincts, and this enables it to adjust well to changing situations. The Xoloitzcuintli is a very old breed of dog. In order to survive the times, such primitive breeds need to retain all of their canine talents. This is why the Xolo has a great advantage in the Agility competition. Its lightning reflexes make it an ideal breed for this competition.

The mental and physical challenges of the Agility exercises actually appeal to the Xoloitzcuintli. The courses for Agility vary from competition to competition but they usually include sixteen to twenty standard obstacles, such as weave poles, tables, A-frames, chutes, tunnels, hurdles, and others. Some of the course features are set according to the heights of the dogs, and all competitors will be divided into 5 categories of sizes. There are 3 levels of competition, namely, Novice, Open, and Agility Excellent. Your Xolo will be tested prior to the competition to determine which level it should compete in.

Your Xoloitzcuintli can earn Agility titles if it earns three scores within the time limit and the fault limit. It will qualify if it manages a score of 85 out of 100 points. AKC Agility titles at stake are Novice Agility (NA), Open Agility (OA), and Agility Excellent (AX). The higher titles are Master Agility Excellent (MX), Master Agility Excellent Preferred (MXP), Master Agility Jumper (MXJ) and Master Excellent Jumper Preferred (MJP). To qualify for these titles, your Xolo has to earn ten qualifying scores. There are also the higher titles like Preferred Agility Excellent (PAX) and Master Agility Champion (MACH).
