I go to this vet ina town near by me. I was talking with my teacher about this vet and she said she took her dog there once for his leg and they told her he had dip displasia and to put him down. She went and got a second opinion and it turned out he only has a little muscel problem that could be easily cured!! She no longer goes there but i still do. I have a Golden retriever and they are known for hip problems and because of that i don't know if i shold go there anymore... what do you think?
Wow, that's a hard one. What kind of experience have you had with the vet? Do you trust him/her? If not I would switch. I trust my vet completely. He is so obviously in it for the love of animals and not just to make money. He's proven this to me many times over the years. I guess anyone can make a mistake but that's a pretty big mistake. I just don't know what I would do.
The first question would be to ask you, Do you like the vet you are taking your dog to? Does he give you the time to ask questions? From my experience with DVMs, and trust me I have many years. If there ever is a time you doubt you vet, then by all means go for a second opinion. If you friend chose not to go for a second opinion the results would have been devastating. It sounds similiar with a Dr. I used to know. Do what is right with your heart, and keep the dog in mind for they can not talk for themselves.
