Have an English Springer Spaniel? I saw one the other day and fell in love. Just wondering if anyone has one, and what info anyone could give me on them. i'm not looking to get another dog right now, but i'm now curious about the breed and am curretnly doing research! any info would be great...thx
i do not have an english springer spaniel. there is some discussion amongst the breed about springer rage syndrome. i believe some trainers don't believe that it exists but i would read up on it , very interesting stuff.
thanks scout, i have heard about the rage syndrome, haven't researched it a lot yet, but its something i'm interested in looking into. do you know if the rage syndrome is only in english springer spaniels....or spaniels all together??
My uncle has one he uses for bird hunting. Great family dogs, very friendly. High energy though, but love to please. Easy to train. If you're looking for a dog that will do great with kids and loves everyone and you have an active family (or better yet, a family that bird hunts), they are the dog for you :)
we had two cocker spaniels, one was great and high energy. But very sweet and loving animal.
The other one was crazy. We rescued him from a single guy that worked all day and kept the dog in the garage while he was away. The dog got supper lonely. We were able to help him a little. With lots of love and exercise. But he was still really weird.
The reason I said all that was to let you know that Spaniels need a moderate amount of exercise and do not do well being cooped up all day.
But are really sweet if you get them when they are not abused.
tj i have only heard the rage syndrome referred to when speaking of the english springer spaniels. i do not know if it applies to all spaniels. i wouldn't think so because lots of spaniels, like the brittany, are very sweet dogs.
ok thanks everyone. i'm not looking to get a dog right now, i've got my hands full, but i like to research other breeds, and this one caught my attention. i'm definetly going to look more into the rage sydrome....i also like the britney spaniels. and no, if i were to get an ESS, it wouldn't be used for bird hunting, as i don't do that
I don't know about rage, but lack of attention to the owner may be a problem. There is one in my obedience class. He is very hyper/down like a rug...seems to be a bit more focused on his enviornment than his owner. I guess they are bird machines when they are finished training...lots of physical ability. An evil thing...in the wrong hands.
