My Golden loves to hunt and sometimes, when we are playing in the driveway, he takes off and runs into the bush behind our house. I yell his name, tell him to come back, but the more I call him the faster he runs. He always comes back, about an hour later, and I have not got mad at him at that point because after all he does come home. But, I hate that he takes off when he gets a scent in his nose and chooses to disobey me. What to do?
Probably put him on a leash. He sounds like his nose takes over. I would not let him outside off leash anymore, god forbid he gets hit by a car one day or gets another dog pregnant (unless he's neutered).
He's neutered and luckily we live in a very rural area. He does not run downtown, but only stays where the deer and rabbits run :o) Still, I know it's a huge concern of mine that he gets hurt or worse. Does anyone have knowledge about the zapping training collars, would they work for his selective hearing when his nose takes over and he ignores me?
I have the invisible fence for 2 APBT. Some people disagree with them.I have one dog with very high prey drive and extreme dog aggression.Since the fence has been installed she has not left the yard for anything. The fence was installed professionally , and my dogs where trained professionally on being introduced to the fence. They are kept contained, safe at home.
My golden is an unneutered male and if he gets loose, you have to chase him or wait for him to come home. He loves to go on adventures! ha...He hasn't gotten out in a few years at least. He's not fixed but if a female were in heat, he can't get out of this fence. ha
haha that sounds like me. i ahve a 7 month golden and we live in town and sometimes he gets loose and its snowy here and he will be running and smelling the tire tracks and this one time he did it and he ran right onto the road...ooo i wanted to kill him..(not literally) nut man oh man i'd call and call and he wouldn't even acknowlege me! but i hear yah. i keep asking myparents for a electric fence....but its to expensive
I will never let my dog loose, no matter how much training he could get! ha. This street is awful, people go like 60-70 in a 35 mile and hour and don't pay attention to anything. I wouldn't dare risk it
